What do you enjoy most about practicing law?
I love working with clients and preparing an effective defense to cases. I enjoy building strong defense strategies on a daily basis that allow each of my clients to achieve the best possible case result. I hold the presumption of innocence very highly; and make clear that not everyone suspect charged criminally is a criminal.
What is an interesting matter that have you worked on, which also left you feeling a strong sense of pride?
An interesting matter that I have worked on, which left me feeling a strong sense of pride, was not really during my legal practice but in my Volunteer work with Dying with Dignity Canada. There were a time when I can to convince a very religious family that the option of physician assisted deaths is suitable to that family member seeking it and although it took me some time and multiple arguments over religious defenses I have to thank my legal advocacy skills that allowed me to prove my side and support the individual seeking it.
What is your favorite strategy to maintain and improve your mental health and wellness?
My motto in life about maintaining a good mental health and wellness has always been to have the ability to deal with stress and bounce back from adversity no matter how hard the issue is or how bad my day goes.
It is said, hindsight is 20/20. Looking back, what is one piece of advice you wish you could have given yourself when you first started out in the law?
There is no single golden advice I can give my younger self, but I’d definitely like to advise my younger self to not follow the crowd, and that standing alone is at times a good thing.
